The Rest of the Story
On January 18, 1998, Craig B. Savell of Little Rock, Arkansas, president of the Arkansas Credit League, was in our Sunday morning worship service at Creola First Baptist Church, where his parents Robert and Isabell Savell are members. Craig checked on the visitor card that he was a first time visitor.

I was in the middle sermon of a series of messages on Bible characters that I titled the VIP series. The message that morning was on the subject of "Integrity". I mentioned CHARACTER IS THE ISSUE by The Honorable Mike Huckabee Governor of Arkansas in my message. [The Honorable Mike Huckabee Governor of Arkansas, Character Is the Issue: How People With Integrity can Revolutionize America?(Nashville: B&H Publishing Group, 1997).]

After the service as I greeted those present, Craig Savell, thanked me for mentioning his Governor in my message. I had no idea that he would be present or that he was from Arkansas or that he was to be meeting with Governor Huckabee very soon.
Several weeks later I received a copy of the book I mentioned with the following inscription:

"To Frank Kirksey-
Brother in Christ-
May God guide you in His
Character!
Mike Huckabee
2-14-98"
[I still have the church visitor card filled out by Craig B. Savell on January 18,1998.]

Governor Mike Huckabee spoke at Cottage Hill Baptist Church, Mobile, Alabama, on Monday evening, August 16, 1999. I have a cassette copy of that message. [I was ordained at Cottage Hill Baptist Church on January 17, 1988.]

When I completed Sound Biblical Preaching: Giving the Bible a Voice in 2001, I began to seek endorsements.

I e-mailed a request to Governor Huckabee on the website for the State of Arkansas. At 11:28 AM on Thursday, April 11, 2002, I received the following e-mail message from Gary Underwood GaryUnderwood@gov.state.ar.us to flkirksey@msn.com

I met Governor Mike Huckabee in Pensacola, Florida, early Monday morning, January 28, 2008 at a rally at the Fish House Restaurant. He preached the night before at East Brent Baptist Church. I actually saw him briefly for a second when he arrived and gave him Sound Biblical Preaching that he endorsed and after his speech as he was leaving I was strategically standing where he exited with the books to be autographed, namely, Character Makes a Difference, From Hope to Higher Ground and Living Beyond Your Lifetime, in hand. We were able to talk for a few minutes and I thanked him for his endorsement of my book and for the values he upholds.
