Put yourself in Mike's position. It is November of 2012 and he has just won the election. What agenda does he push forward the fastest?
My soap box is abortion. I want it ended as soon as possible. At the same time however, we see what happens when you try and tackle the big issues right off the bat. Obama is sinking as he tries and fails to do too much too fast. So, should Mike go after the big things like abortion, or should he focus on issues like the fair tax? Thoughts?

Good question. Honestly, I feel he should foucus on the FairTax. In doing so, he can MAKE SURE there is a provision in that proposal that does not allow our tax dollars to fund overseas or domestic abortions. Otherwise we could not call this tax "the FairTax." Eventhough I would never recomend a Woman to get an abortion due to my personal convictions, I would not want us outlawing abortion to make the Government think it can go ahead and dictate to us what Doctor we have, what we can eat, and how much money we can make. Hence the saying, "You give them an inch, they'll take a mile." Therefore we should keep the Government out of the Abortion issue, & let the Woman decide for herself. Therefore, we could allow for the woman to have one if she was raped or if the child was a threat to her life. But, other than that, we could tell her and that boy, "Adult decisions, require adult consequences." Also we could reduce the # of abortions by means of community education and involvement. This way the accountability factor is up, and people are less likely to do things that would result in an unwanted pregnancy. This alone would stop some abortions before the young lady even gets pregnant.

I completely disagree. Do you think that 11 year olds should be able to drive? Should 12 year olds be able to drink? Should cocaine be legal? Theft? Murder? These are all things the government currently has set up laws for. If we give the government an inch on things like taxes it is true, they will take a mile. But simply placing abortion where it belongs, under the label of "murder", does not expand the level of the government to any dangerous levels. Instead of saves the lives of hundreds of thousands of babies every year in the United States and makes a point for other countries to follow. Watch! As soon as abortion is made illegal in the United States the Lord will bless this country in ways unseen since the formation of our country. End Abortion NOW!

Well Karrboy84, I respect your view point as no two people are going to think compleatly alike. And if I was to ever meet a Woman contemplating an Abortion, I would recomend her to NOT have one. However, I personally feel, we'd reduce the number of Abortions further by preventative measures (such as accountability groups, support groups, or even just showing Jesus' love for that young lady) than we would if we just outlawed it altogether. In fact, I have 2 unwed cousins. I love them and their babies dearly and thank God that they chose life.
As for your other questions, No, 11 year olds should not drive. No, 12 year olds should not legally be allowed to drink (but if the parents do a special dinner with the family in the privacy of their own home, that's none of our business). Theft should not be legal nor should murder. However, I personally feel Abortion should be handled differently than other types of Murder. For instance, a young lady should NOT get the death penalty for an Abortion, but someone who used a gun and murdered should.
As for cocaine or any other illegal substance, (Though I know you may not agree with this) Lets look at what happened durring the Prohibition Era. Booze was made illegal, but people bought it anyways and the crime went up b/c it was sold by those on the black market. Therefore, I'am one of the few Conservatives who feels it should be made legal. BUT, put an excise tax on it. Then we can use that money to shrink our deficit. Imagine if cigarettes were illegal, there would be so many crimes it wouldn't even be funny. For those who feel they need those drugs for medical reasons, our federal government should not waste our tax dollars trying to raid their homes and put them in jail. Our federal government should use WHAT LITTLE RESOURCES we have left and put away the violent offenders. I've got Grandparents w/ health problems, they are not taking illegal substances to numb the pain, but if they were, I would not condem them, nor would I approve of the federal government raiding their home. Does this mean I would condone someone drinking or smoking theirselves stupid? HELL NO!! However, you can not stop someone from being stupid. But you can love them and pray for them and form an ACCOUNTABILITY RELATIONSHIP with them. That right there would help reduce; the number of abortions, or people getting high and drunk. Think about it.

Very interesting points of view.
I don't have a strong stance on the issues of currently illegal drugs. If they do become legal, and used for medical purposes, that means that health insurance companies would have to cover them as they would any other currently legal drug. Sounds expensive to me.
As far as abortion goes, I agree that there should be as many preventative options as possible. Support groups are a great idea and I have seen them work in many situations. We have a local crisis nursery and a crisis pregnancy center that have helped save many lives. I don't know how you can say that we would save MORE lives by using those measures over making abortion illegal. I am quite aware that there would be "alley-way abortions" and even self-inflicted abortions. How many? I don't know. I highly doubt that there would be over 800,000 a year though. Maybe if abortion was made illegal there would be more of a push for abstinence (or even a greater awareness of the use of a condom!) If there were a much lower number of unwanted pregnancies then obviously there would be much less desire for abortions. As the current law stands, abortion is not legally murder, so of course there is no punishment for it. If it were made illegal I agree that the death penalty should not be given for someone who has an abortion, but it would still be murder....20 to life sounds about right to me. If the consequences for our actions were stronger, it would cause people to think a little harder before they made certain decisions.
